Peer review process

Procedure for Reviewing Manuscripts of Articles

Innovation Transport Technologies and Urban Modelling

The journal Innovation Transport Technologies and Urban Modelling applies a rigorous double-blind peer review process to ensure the quality, originality, and scientific relevance of all submitted manuscripts. The review process is conducted in accordance with international standards of academic publishing ethics and transparency.

1. Initial Editorial Assessment

Upon submission, each manuscript is checked by the editorial office to verify compliance with the journal's formatting and scope requirements. Manuscripts that do not meet the basic criteria or are outside the scope of the journal may be rejected without peer review.

2. Plagiarism and Originality Check

All manuscripts are subjected to plagiarism detection software (e.g., iThenticate) to ensure originality. Manuscripts with significant overlap or unethical content will be rejected.

3. Assignment to Editor

Manuscripts that pass the initial check are assigned to a relevant Section Editor or Handling Editor based on subject expertise.

4. Double-Blind Peer Review

The journal uses a double-blind peer review model:

  • Authors do not know the identity of the reviewers.

  • Reviewers do not know the identity of the authors.

Each manuscript is typically reviewed by at least two independent experts in the relevant field. In cases of conflicting reviews, a third reviewer or the Editor-in-Chief may be consulted.

5. Reviewer Evaluation Criteria

Reviewers evaluate manuscripts based on the following criteria:

  • Scientific quality and originality

  • Relevance to the journal’s scope

  • Methodological soundness

  • Clarity of presentation and structure

  • Validity of results and conclusions

  • Appropriateness of references and citations

Reviewers submit one of the following recommendations:

  • Accept without changes

  • Minor revision

  • Major revision

  • Reject

6. Editorial Decision

Based on the reviewers' feedback, the Editor makes one of the following decisions:

  • Accept: The manuscript is accepted without further changes.

  • Revise and Resubmit: Authors are invited to revise the manuscript (minor or major) and submit a response to reviewers.

  • Reject: The manuscript does not meet the journal’s standards for publication.

Authors will receive the anonymized reviewer reports along with the decision letter.

7. Revision and Final Decision

If revisions are requested, authors are given a deadline (usually 2–4 weeks) to submit a revised version along with a detailed point-by-point response to reviewers’ comments. The revised manuscript may be re-evaluated by the original reviewers.

The final decision rests with the Editor-in-Chief.

8. Publication

Once accepted, manuscripts are copyedited, typeset, and prepared for online publication. The corresponding author is asked to approve the final version before publication.
